Monthly. Mark it on your calendar. Call it “Salt Date.” Get excited.
Pop open the lid and peek inside. Is the water level covering the salt? Is it still dry and chunky? If the salt looks like a wet, mushy mess, you have a problem.
Wet mushy salt means you have a “salt mush” or a bad resin bed. That’s a bigger chat. For now, just check the level.
The Magic Measuring Stick
Use a stick. A clean yardstick or a broom handle works perfectly. Stick it down into the salt. Pull it out.
If the salt is more than six inches below the top of the tank, add more. If it’s above the halfway mark, stop. Simple, right?
