If you count all 188 staff bedrooms plus the 52 royal bedrooms, that’s 240 people sleeping there at once. That’s a small village living under one roof.
Buckingham Palace Floor Plan
For a state visit, the palace can put up 40 guests in the main suites. The rest are sent to nearby royal residences like Clarence House. It’s like a very fancy overflow hotel.
The Ghost Bedrooms
Some bedrooms haven’t been touched in decades. They are called “museum bedrooms.” They are kept pristine, waiting for a ghost or a very formal guest. You could sleep in a room that hasn’t had a human in it since the 1950s.
There’s even a Minstrels’ Gallery above one bedroom. Imagine trying to sleep while a harpist is practicing above you. Not ideal.
