The oldest part of the system is the Metropolitan line. It’s basically a museum piece that still runs trains.
The newest line is the Elizabeth line, which opened in 2026. It’s shiny, digital, and air-conditioned.
Contrast that: a 1863 steam tunnel next to a 2026 glass palace. London doesn't care about consistency. It loves chaos.
London tube and stations – Artofit
The Station That Time Forgot
There are about 40 abandoned "ghost stations" on the Tube. One is Aldwych, closed since 1994.
Another is Brompton Road, used as a secret WWII bunker. You can still see the old tiles behind the walls.
These stations are haunted—or at least, really creepy. Urban explorers love them.
