Why Is He Lying? How to Spot It, Understand It, and Respond

Why Is He Lying? How to Spot It, Understand It, and Respondとはどんな影響があるのか? 詳しい意味を整理してお届けします。

Let’s start with the most common explanations. In many relationships—romantic, family, or workplace—lying often comes from risk management. People lie because the truth is expensive to them.

Fear of consequences is a top driver. He might worry he’ll be blamed, punished, or abandoned. If the other person reacts harshly to mistakes, dishonesty becomes a shield.

Protecting his image is another. Some lies aim to look competent, attractive, socially acceptable, or “in control.” These are less about hiding wrongdoing and more about preserving status.

Convenience and avoidance also matter. If telling the truth creates conflict, more questions, or extra work, a person may choose the path with less friction—even if it harms trust later.

When lying is actually self-deception

Not every distorted story is deliberate manipulation. Some people genuinely believe their own version at the time they say it, especially if they reframe events to feel less guilty or less responsible. That’s still a trust problem, but the response can be different: it may require reassurance and clearer communication rather than confrontation.
