Look, you’re not going to find a Michelin-starred après-ski scene here. But you will find a load of friendly people who all share a slightly ridiculous hobby. There’s a social club feel. The regulars nod at you. The staff remember your name if you come twice. “Oh, you’re back! Ready to attempt the link turns without crying this time?” Yes. Maybe.
They do Freestyle nights, race training, and toddler sessions where three-year-olds in tiny helmets zoom past you while you’re still figuring out how to stand up. It’s humbling. And wonderful.
So, should you go? I mean, yes. It’s not about being a pro. It’s about trying something that makes you feel a bit silly and a bit brave at the same time. You might end up with a bruised ego and a cold bum. But you’ll also get a story and—if you’re lucky—a new addiction. Go on. Gloucester Ski Centre, Matson Lane. The plastic snow is waiting. And so is that bacon roll.
