So next time you see a little fuzzy black bug, don’t panic. Look closely. Is it the goat-like carpet beetle devouring your wardrobe? The fossilized parkour expert in your ficus tree? Or the hilarious ugly-duckling ladybug? The answer is almost never “termites.” It’s almost always just a tiny, goofy squatter who’s bad at hiding.
Remember: if you’re scared, just name it. “Bob” the springtail is less terrifying than “mysterious crawly thing.” And if it flies? Shout “Not today, Gnatty McBeardface!” and laugh. Because in the grand scheme of life, these fuzzy little guys are just trying to live their best 1-millimeter lives alongside your enormous, screaming self. Be kind. Or at least, e-mail your landlord.
