Don’t skip the openers just because you want to save your energy. They can be incredible. But if you’re strictly asking “when does the main event happen?”, that answer changes.
Typically, the opening act will play for about 45 minutes. Then there’s a 30- to 40-minute break. During that break, the crowd gets restless. You can feel the energy shift. People start chanting “Axl! Axl!” like it’ll speed things up. Spoiler: It won’t.

But that break is your window. Buy that overpriced beer. Use the bathroom. Stretch your legs. Because once the lights go down, you won’t want to move for three hours.
The Axl Factor: Why It’s Never Exactly on Time
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The “Axl Factor.” This band has a legendary reputation for going on very, very late. We’re talking about the days when Axl might stroll on stage at midnight. Or 1 AM.
But that was then. This is now. The current tour is surprisingly professional. Don’t expect a 9:00 PM sharp start. Do expect a show that starts within an hour of the advertised time. That’s a win in my book.
A good rule of thumb? If the ticket says “Show: 7:00 PM,” think of that as “doors open” for the opening acts. Plan for GNR to play around 9:45 PM to 10:00 PM on a two-opener night. If there’s just one opener, slide that to 9:00 PM.
