Once the dirt is down, water the crap out of it. Water helps the soil settle into the grass roots. It also shows you where you messed up. Those little puddles? Those are the spots you need to hit again tomorrow.
After three days, you’ll see the grass starting to grow through the thin layer of soil. After a week, the lawn will look flat, lush, and smug. You will walk on it and feel like a golf course superintendent. You might even do a little victory shuffle.
And here’s the kicker: if you do this every spring, your lawn will gradually become as flat as a board game. Eventually, you won’t need to level it at all. You’ll just maintain your masterpiece.
So go ahead. Fix that wavy mess. Become the person who points at their yard and says, “I did that.” Your neighbors will nod with quiet respect. And your ankles will thank you. Eventually.
