After the float test, give your egg a sniff. A bad egg has a very distinct, sulfurous smell that will stop you in your tracks. If it smells fine, it’s fine. Crack it into a separate bowl first, just in case.
A cloudy white or a slightly flat yolk doesn’t mean it’s bad. That just means the egg is getting a little older. It’s still perfect for scrambling, baking, or making a frittata. The only thing that matters is the smell.
