Even though Robert left the role over a decade ago, Sean Slater is still talked about by fans. He was one of those characters who just had that it factor—you couldn’t look away. Part of that is the writing, but a huge chunk is Robert’s performance. He took a character who could have been a one-note violent thug and gave him layers of vulnerability and rage. You know a soap actor has done their job when people still argue on forums about whether Sean was a victim or a villain. (Spoiler: he was both.)
So next time you’re flicking through old EastEnders clips or rewatching that infamous “you’re dead to me” scene, remember the bloke behind the cheekbones. His name is Robert Kazinsky, he’s Welsh, he’s got an American accent now, and he once made a whole generation of soap fans slightly terrified of track jackets. And if you ever meet him? Don’t mention the denim. He’s probably over it.
